Solid and gas pathways
A sparse, tortuous solid skeleton limits solid conduction. Small pores can suppress gas conduction under appropriate pressure and temperature conditions. This is different from bulk air circulation; performance depends on structure, formulation and environment.
Radiation still matters
Nanopores do not eliminate radiative heat transfer. Radiative contribution changes with temperature; opacifiers and other formulation choices may be needed. Reinforcement, binders, compression and moisture can change the resulting performance.
